According to foreign media reports, Volkswagen Group of America will recall nearly 60,500 2021-2023 Audi and Volkswagen brands, because the gears of the vehicle may not be displayed correctly, which may cause the vehicle to slip without parking brake enabled.

A statement released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that a faulty instrument cluster may not display the "N" gear correctly. NHTSA revealed that the affected models include some 2021 to 2023 Volkswagen ID.4, as well as the 2022 to 2023 Audi Q4 e-Tron and Q4 e-Tron Sportback.

As a global leader in automotive innovation, Volkswagen is rapidly expanding its electric vehicle product line. ID.4 is one of the models recalled by Volkswagen and is also Volkswagen's first electric SUV to be sold worldwide. This model plays a crucial role in Volkswagen's strategy to transform into sustainable mobility.

NHTSA stated in the recall notice: "Affected by this problem, the relevant vehicles failed to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 102 on 'shift lever sequence, start interlocking and transmission braking effects'." NHTSA pointed out that in order to prevent the vehicle from slipping and causing an accident, the owner should pull up the handbrake before leaving the vehicle and confirm that the red handbrake indicator light on the instrument panel has been lit.

The problem was first discovered outside the United States in August 2024, and Volkswagen Group has received five reports related to this defect. This fault is related to a software defect, causing some gears to fail to display correctly. NHTSA stressed that it is crucial to resolve such safety hazards as soon as possible.

Volkswagen will notify affected owners and take steps to fix the problem. Last month, Volkswagen just launched another recall, when about 30,000 cars were recalled because the reversing image could not be displayed normally. The recall mainly involves Audi Q3 and some Volkswagen Tiguan and Arteon models.
